Article Writing Prompts

Should I cite my sources in a college admissions essay?
The prompt is:
Choose an issue of importance to you—the issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scope—and write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.
I have some data from some articles on the internet and I need to know if I should cite the source or not include the data at all. If citation is required, what format should it be in?
Thanks,
aggie2015
If it is personal/family life work/volunteer experiences that influenced you in some way then you do not need to cite.
